What are the Odds in New Mexico?
13% OF 12-17 YEAR-OLDS USED ILLICIT DRUGS IN THE PAST
MONTH
ROUGHLY 8% OF 12-17 YEAR-OLDS USE MARIJUANA FOR THE FIRST
TIME EACH YEAR
2% OF 12-17 YEAR-OLDS USED COCAINE IN THE PAST
YEAR
Kids using drugs in New Mexico is a real problem.
And the earlier they start, the higher the chances are of them continuing
to use drugs into adulthood and eventually needing a drug detox or drug rehab program to get off them.
13% of 12 to 17-year-olds used illicit drugs in the past month. That means that in your 13-year-old son's sports team, there are two to four teammates that have used illicit drugs in the past month.
That's solely in the past month; the percentage would be even higher if you looked at how many had used drugs in the past year.
To make matters worse, about 8% of kids 12 to 17 years old use marijuana for the first time every year. So, on top of the one out of every 8 or so that have used marijuana in the last month, another one out of 10 will be introduced to it. So, in your son or daughter's classroom of 30 students, there's a good chance that about five are using marijuana.
By the time they're in their senior year of high school, the vast majority will have tried, and may still be using, marijuana.
There's virtually no chance that
your kids will not be offered drugs of some sort in school. If parents
education their kids about the dangers of drugs, they are 50% less likely
to get involved.
If your son or daughter has already gotten
involved in drugs, we can help you. Call us at Drug Rehab Referral to talk
about the situation and determine whether your child needs drug detox or drug rehab.
We'll
help you sift through the thousands of programs available and find the

What are the main problems that lead to drug rehab in New Mexico?
2%
of 12 to 17-year-olds used cocaine in the past year. That might
seem like a small number, but it amounts to over 3,000 children risking
their lives each year. But they're not the only people using cocaine.
Cocaine and crack cocaine are actually New Mexico's biggest problem.
They're widely distributed, and widely used - which contributes to it
being available to kids.
Methamphetamine abuse is also a major problem. Although many of the labs that made methamphetamine in New Mexico have been closed down, that didn't do much to decrease the usage - it's now being shipped from Mexican labs.
Club drugs are also widely used - especially in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. There are also ‘raves' held regularly on U.S. Forest Service lands where kids party all night on Ecstasy (MDMA), Ketamine, LSD and other drugs.
The legalization of marijuana for medical use in New Mexico hasn't really helped the situation. People get the idea that if you can get it by prescription, it can't be too harmful.

Prescription Drug Addiction, Dependency and Abuse In New Mexico
Which brings us to the problem of prescription drugs: As with the entire U.S., prescription drug addiction, dependency and abuse is a serious problem in New Mexico and many people are in need of medical drug detox and drug rehab programs to get off them.
As with marijuana, the fact that these drugs are prescribed by a doctor - even if that's not how the person taking them got them - makes them seem safe. But nothing could be further from the truth: Some drug detox and drug rehab centers now see more people for a prescription drug addiction or dependency problems than for street drugs.

We can help you find a prescription drug detox and drug rehab program to help you get off prescription drugs safely
Part of the problem with prescription drugs in New
Mexico stems from the fact that right across the border, in Mexico, you can
buy these drugs over the counter. Dealers, and users, buy them in Mexico
and take them back home to use themselves or sell to other
people.
Another part of the problem is that there is a shortage
of qualified medical personnel in New Mexico, so practitioners like
psychologists, who have no medical training whatsoever, are allowed to
prescribe them.
In fact, many people develop their prescription
drug addiction, dependency and abuse problem after having been prescribed
them by their doctor. Doctors, unfortunately, do not always have enough
knowledge of the dangers of these drugs to prescribe them safely and, now,
with people who know even less being able to prescribe them, prescription
drug addiction and dependency has become a real problem.

Why a prescription drug detox could be your first step in New Mexico
Drugs such as marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamines don't usually need a drug
detox before drug rehab. But for heroin and for most prescription drugs, a
medical drug detox is always the best first
step.
Prescription painkillers are the most prominent prescription drug problems in New Mexico - OxyContin, Vicodin, Percocet and Lortab are good examples. However, benzodiazepines like Valium and Xanax are also widely used, as are sleeping pills and anti-psychotics.
All of these drugs require medically supervised drug detox for withdrawal. It is possible that if the person taking them is actually addicted, they'll also need drug rehab, but doing a medical drug detox first will get them through withdrawal safely and without severe pain so they can then address the problems that got them into taking drugs in the first place - which is done in drug rehab - and start working on doing what they need to do to stay off drugs.
If you have a prescription drug addiction, dependency or abuse problem, and you want to stop taking them,
call us at Drug Rehab Referral so we can help you find a good prescription drug detox center and, if needed, a good drug rehab in New Mexico.

Do I also need alcohol detox or rehab if I have a drinking
problem?
If you are a heavy drinker or into binge drinking, there's a good chance you'll need both alcohol rehab and alcohol detox. Quitting alcohol without medical supervision can be dangerous and actually create medical problems.
Do I have a problem? Does my child have a problem?
Many people are confused about alcohol and drugs. Some parents, for example, think it's normal to experiment with drugs so they don't get too concerned when their kids do it. Others think prescription drugs are safe, so they take them.
But there are 15 million people in the U.S. who have a problem with
alcohol or drug addiction who did not get the treatment they needed last
year. And that doesn't even include those who have a problem with
prescription drug addiction or
dependency with drugs they got from their doctor. This probably applies
to at least another 15 million people, and probably more.
You
can be sure that the vast majority of those people did not intend to get
hooked. They experimented with alcohol or street drugs, or they took the
prescription drugs, without knowing what their chances were of becoming
addicted or dependent, and without knowing how harmful they could be.
