What are the Odds in North Dakota?
35% OF 12-20 YEAR OLDS USED ALCOHOL
IN THE PAST MONTH
ROUGHLY 30% PERFORMED BINGE
DRINKING IN THE PAST MONTH
Radio advertisements are
airing in North Dakota that target underage drinking and drunk driving.
The ads were provided by Anheuser-Busch, and they will air more than 1200
times before October.
Although it's a good idea that all
states should have, North Dakota in particular needs it most. Why? Because
they are, arguably, THE WORST STATE CONCERNING UNDERAGE DRINKING.
35% of 12-20 year olds used alcohol in the past
month. Although this statistic is second worse (and not first) in the
nation, it is definitely noteworthy. This means that in a normal public
high school (with 700 students) 245 of them drink each month. With these
numbers of underage drinkers there is no doubt that your child is exposed
to alcohol.
Roughly 30% performed binge drinking in the past
month. This means that 30% of underage citizens are drinking excessive
amounts of alcohol in order to render themselves drunk.
If your
son or daughter is attending high school or college, then he or she is
exposed to excessive drinking.
People addicted to or
abusing alcohol are likely to need an alcohol rehab program, but if the situation has
gone on long they may also need alcohol detox. If someone has been
drinking heavily or binge drinking, withdrawal from alcohol can be painful
and dangerous.
If you need help getting someone off alcohol, call Drug Rehab Referral.
We can help determine whether they need alcohol detox or alcohol rehab and find a facility that's right for you situation.

Prescription Drug Addiction and Dependency is Also A Problem in North Dakota
OxyContin dependency and addiction are becoming bigger and bigger problems in North Dakota. To get off OxyContin and other prescription drugs safely, you sometimes need prescription drug detox - followed by drug rehab.
Sometimes prescription drug abuse starts when the person is given a prescription after an injury or operation. But prescription painkillers are very easy to become dependent on and addicted to, they have trouble getting off them. But doing so could save their lives, or the lives of others.
Both alcohol and prescription drugs are dangerous in themselves, but in combination these can send you to the ER with an overdose, and maybe to the morgue. Many of the alcohol and prescription drug-related deaths involve more than one drug or a drug used while drinking.
What Can I Do To Protect My Kids and Other Family Members?
Many parents in North Dakota have children that are drinking and taking prescription drugs and putting themselves and others at risk.
The key to preventing drinking and drug abuse is parents teaching their kids about the dangers of alcohol, illegal drugs and prescription drugs, and not doing anything to encourage their use. But if they're already drinking and taking prescription drugs or illegal drugs, you can't get them to a drug detox or drug rehab facility fast enough.
If you took a survey of the alcoholics in the US, you could bet that by far the majority began drinking before they were 21. And although prescription drug abuse is not as big a problem as alcohol, it is not to be underestimated. Drug companies are sued all the time because of the damage done to people taking their drugs and, for many drugs, the death toll is climbing.
To give your child a better chance of his adult life being free of drug and alcohol problems, you're going to have to work at it. It is not going to be easy to keep your child from drinking, especially since it's so widely accepted as the thing to do throughout high school and college. But with good education about alcohol and prescription drugs, and getting help at the first sign of a problem, you might save their life.
