What are the Odds in Tennessee?
60% of the population thinks there is no great risk in smoking marijuana once a month.
10% of the population smokes marijuana and if the trend continues by 2010 it will be 17%
At parties more then half of the people will turn away and not care if your kids, husband or mother are smoking pot. That should encourage more pot smoking for sure.
The Community Statsbook 2007 for Knox County reports some interesting statistics , one third of students in grades 9th through 12th report drinking in the past month, 12% of adults reported binge drinking regularly, and 48% of University of Tennessee students report binge drinking in the past 2 weeks and 12% report use of cocaine.
11% of 11th graders reported using someone else's prescription drugs to get high (2004) and that number will be higher today (2007)
If you live near the University of Tennessee the odds are much higher then anywhere else in the U.S. for all sorts of different drug use. Opiate use such as OxyContin is 5.5 % versus 1.4% in the rest of the nation; cocaine is 12% versus 4.9% and marijuana 21% versus 16.7%.
What does this mean?
When you throw in the national average for inhalants, prescription stimulants, (not mentioned in the report) the odds of substance abuse is pretty high.
One in ten high school students are abusing prescription medicine and we haven't gotten to the over 25 crowd.
Half the people drinking at college age or below will
become alcoholics, some of the opiate users will become addicts and the
prescription drug users will start using more drugs. There is no mention
of benzodiazepines (Valium) or methamphetamines in the report but those
are available all through out state.
When Do I Need Drug Detox and
Drug Rehab?
Whether you're taking prescription drugs, methamphetamines, or other illegal drugs, you'll need drug rehab if you've become addicted. However, many drugs also required drug detox.
Prescription drugs like OxyContin, Xanax, methadone or Valium usually require a prescription drug detox. Sometimes people started taking these drugs when they were prescribed them by their doctor - they became physically dependent and, sometimes, addicted. In those cases, it was accidental.
Others get prescription drugs from their friends or from family medicine cabinets but were not prescribed them. They're basically taking them to get high.
Regardless of how your prescription drug addiction, dependency or abuse started, it's hard, and can be dangerous, to stop taking them without a medical supervised prescription drug detox program.
If you know someone - a family member or friend - who has a problem with OxyContin addiction, dependency or abuse, or with other prescription drugs such as Xanax, methadone, OxyContin or Valium, a prescription drug detox is their first step on the road back to living a drug free life.
Drug Rehab Referral can help you find a good prescription drug detox and a successful drug rehab program.

Alcohol Detox and Alcohol Rehab Is Needed by Millions in Tennessee
As you can see from the statistics above - one third of students in grades nine through 12 drank alcohol in the past month, and nearly half of University of Tennessee students are binge drinking - the problem with alcohol doesn't necessarily get better as you get older.
If students start drinking in grade nine and are now in their senior year at U of T, they've already done a substantial amount of damage to their bodies. And, chances are, they'll continue being heavy drinkers when they get out of college.
Heavy drinking
and binge drinking are both common problems in Tennessee. Alcohol ruins
lives, families and careers and, contrary to what you might think,
it's not easy to stop drinking with a medically supervised alcohol
detox program. In fact, stopping abruptly can be extremely painful, and
dangerous.
If you know someone or have a family member who is
heavy drinker or is binge drinking
