You’ve probably heard the statement that relapse is part of drug addiction. And statistics certainly prove that to be correct: HBO even aired a program about it a few months ago. Most drug rehab centers have appalling success rates – in the neighborhood of 5 percent. Unfortunately, this situation fuels the ‘substitute drug’ model of rehab – where the person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol is simply given another drug to take its place, not necessarily less damaging, but it’s legal. Methadone replacement therapy is a good example.
